Otavalo is a town located at one hour and a half from Quito. Originally, it was an area made up principally of farming communities due to the rich volcanic soils in this area. With the growth of tourism, the town has begun to focus more on weaving of textiles and handcrafts, which have made the Saturday, market a popular stop with visitors to Ecuador. The Otavalo market is now known as Plaza de los Ponchos.
The largest Otavalo market is on Saturday; however there is very wide range of wares available throughout the week in the Plaza de los Ponchos, and the many local shops. So, you can do your Otavalo market tour mid-week and avoid the crowds.
CAYAMBE
It is a town that lies at the foot of Cayambe volcano and is famous for special fresh cheese named “queso de hoja”, a caramel type sauce made with milk and biscochos made in a wood fired oven.

San Pablo Lake lies at the foot of the Imbabura Volcano and 2700 meters elevation. The lake holds a special ecosystem that includes as amphibians, ducks, herons, and aquatic plants.

CUICOCHA
Cuichocha is a volcano caldera located at 3,068 meters elevation. In Quechua name means “rainbow lagoon” or “God’s lake”. The lake contains two green islands. The wide caldera formed after a massive explosion 3,100 years ago and has been dormant ever since.
